Welcome to the Hunt High School AVID website. We hope you are able to find what you are looking for on our site, but please feel free to contact us anytime.
At Hunt, we hold our AVID students at a very high standard academically by placing them in and supporting them through Honors and AP courses. HHS AVID students are required to have great behavior and great attendance, a positive attitude toward their peers and their teachers, and a personal desire to go the extra mile in order to obtain their college and career dreams.
HHS AVID students come from many different backgrounds. Some will be the first in their families to attend college, some may be unsure about taking all honors or AP courses without support from academic tutors, some may be academically ready, but need support in organization and study habits. There are so many benefits to being a part of the HHS AVID program; keep exploring and see if there is a spot for you.
AVID is a global nonprofit organization dedicated to closing the achievement gap by preparing all students for college and other postsecondary opportunities. Established more than 30 years ago, AVID impacts more than 800,000 students in 44 states and 16 other countries/territories.
Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID) is an elective course that prepares students for college readiness and success. It is scheduled during the regular school day as a year-long course. Each week, students receive instruction utilizing a rigorous college preparatory curriculum provided by AVID Center. AVID requires students to enroll in their school's toughest courses such as Honors, Advanced Placement, and International Baccalaureate. To support them in the rigorous coursework, students work in collaborative study groups facilitated by academic tutors, and participate in enrichment and motivational activities to make their college dreams reality.
